“Where are we going, Dad?”
“To pet Kangaroos.”
“…..Really?!?!?!?!”
I’d read about this zoo online so we planned a trip to head there as well as some of the other attractions in the area. And you get to pet kangaroos! It was awesome! As soon as we purchased our ticket, a lady poked her head out of an office and asked us if we wanted to pet a baby kangaroo. Uh… YEAH! What a fantastic experience! He was apparently getting ready for a TV interview and had a little time before the TV crew showed up so she had the little guy sitting in her office and let our kids get an up-close meet and greet.
This place has plenty of other things to look at – we easily spent the whole day there seeing the birds (and feeding them of course), watching the border collie demonstration and herding of sheep, the cave tour, and the main attraction of the kangaroos.
I don’t know how long we spent in with the kangaroos. It was pretty hot that day, so they were mostly laying around but occasionally one would hop across the field.
Also in with the kangaroos were some emus – Sam spent a lot of time petting the emu, while Ben and Leah pet the kangaroos (and felt the joeys in the pouches).
Our kids still talk about this place years afterwards. We will definitely have to make a trip back!
