Mother’s Day at Falls Lake Dam

I’m pretty sure this was a spur of the moment idea of somewhere to go for Mother’s Day in 2017.

Regardless, we ended up at Falls Lake Dam. We had never been there before, even though we had lived in North Carolina for 10 years at that point, and in Durham for a little over 4 years. It was a neat place to visit – there are a bunch of bald eagle nests in the area and you can occasionally see them flying over the water or around the dam. I heard there is good fishing there, and we also saw some people with stubby kayaks who would put in just after the spillway to ride the white-waters down for a few hundred yards then bring their kayaks back to the spillway.

All in all, it was a good day to just spend time with each other and celebrate Mother’s Day!
