The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro is another awesome place to visit. We have been there a lot – and we have annual passes! 🙂
As zoos go, this one is pretty big. If I recall correctly it is 2 miles total – 1 mile uphill until you reach the center, and then the other mile is downhill. One side is the North American side while the other is the African side. We’ve done it end-to-end a few times, but in the summer when it’s super hot out I will typically drop the family off on one side and go park the car on the other side. I’ll then take either the bus or tram and meet up with them. This way, we only have to walk the length once and the car is there so we can go and not have to wait on a bus or tram (which will be crowded, hot, and have at least my tired and cranky kids in it by that point).
On at least one occasion my parents and one of my kids’ cousins went with us, which was of course a lot of fun and it’s always good to see family.
What are our favorite exhibits? The kids love the otters and birds. The bears come in a close second I think, with everyone except my wife. She says he looks and acts too much like me :/
For me, I like the arctic fox since it always makes for great photography.
